Stoicism in a nutshell: The path to happiness…

In a nutshell, stoicism teaches (in part) that the path to happiness for humans is found

  • in accepting the moment as it presents itself and
  • not allowing oneself to be controlled by the desire for pleasure
  • or fear of pain.

Secular Buddhism, on the other hand, focuses on the idea that we cling to impermanent things and ideas and that by overcoming that tendency we can find a better life, and it offers strategies for doing just that.
